
HSE University Presents Its Developments at the Positive Hack Days Fest
On May 22-24, HSE University presented its developments and degree programmes at the main IT event of the year, the Positive Hack Days International Cyber Fest at Luzhniki. Students and specialists of the Centre for Software Development and Digital Services of the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (HSE MIEM), the School of Software Engineering of the Faculty of Computer Science, and the MIEM Workshop for Game Engineering and Interactive Systems together with students from HSE Art and Design School greeted festival guests.

While studying at HSE University, students not only gain a strong theoretical foundation but also engage in rich project-based work. Many launch start-ups that later grow into major businesses or conduct significant research. For instance, students from the Contemporary Journalism Master’s programme developed a project on Moscow’s cycling infrastructure.

HSE Scholars Elected to Russian Academy of Sciences
On May 30, 2025, a general meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) announced the results of the elections for its full and corresponding members. Around 1,800 individuals took part in the voting. Among those elected this year are scholars from HSE University.

HSE Students Sweep the Podium at the National Cup of the Russian Competitive Programming Federation
The final of the Russian Competitive Programming Cup in the Algorithmic Programming discipline has taken place. Seven students and one lecturer from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took part in the event. Bachelor’s students from the Applied Mathematics and Information Science programme claimed the top three places.
Forbes University Ranking: HSE Has Top Reputation among Employers
On May 22, Forbes Education released its updated ranking of the 100 best universities in Russia for 2025. HSE University retained its second-place position, having established itself as the university with the highest employer reputation. Among the top 20 were 12 universities from Moscow, three from St Petersburg, two from Tatarstan, and one each from the Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk, and Tomsk regions.

HSE Students Win Gold Medals at International Mathematical Olympiad in Ashgabat
The 5th Open Mathematical Olympiad for University Students (OMOUS-2025) took place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, attracting teams from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Iran, Romania, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and India. In total, around 500 students took part in the event.

Centre for Language and Brain Begins Cooperation with Academy of Sciences of Sakha Republic
HSE University's Centre for Language and Brain and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) have signed a partnership agreement, opening up new opportunities for research on the region's understudied languages and bilingualism. Thanks to modern methods, such as eye tracking and neuroimaging, scientists will be able to answer questions about how bilingualism works at the brain level.

HSE University's FCS Team Wins BSUIR Open Sports Programming Championship
On April 26, 2025, the student final of the 13th Open Team Championship in Sports Programming of Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics took place in Minsk (Belarus). More than 300 teams took part in the semi-final of the competition, while only 29 teams took part in the final, including three teams from HSE University, which ended up taking first, third, and fifth places.

HSE Tops University Ranking at X5 Tech Sprint Programming Championship
The X5 Tech Sprint is a championship in algorithmic programming. A total of 808 school pupils and university students from over 200 educational institutions across Moscow took part. HSE ranked first among universities in the overall participant leaderboard, and a student from the Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) achieved the best individual result.

HSE Scientists Win Prestigious International Prize in Fundamental Physics
The 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics has been awarded to the international collaborations of experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, including the LHCb collaboration, in which researchers from HSE University have participated.
