Education news at HSE University

Doctoral schools provide an opportunity for international doctoral students to undertake part of their study or research at HSE. The university offers two types of traineeships – research and study. The study stay involves taking courses from the HSE doctoral schools. The research stay offers the opportunity to work with a particular academic advisor or at an international research laboratory or centre; gain access to international full-text and abstract databases, journals and books; and attend graduate seminars.

HSE and Parallels have agreed to cooperate on IT educational programmes. Parallels will start working with students from the HSE’s Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, and a further agreement on cooperation is to be signed with the university’s Computer Sciences Faculty.

Higher School of Economics (HSE) has entered the 2017 U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking for Mathematics, in 181^st place.

Over the course of three months, 11 students from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science interned for Google at the company’s offices in the U.S., Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain, and Poland. The HSE News Service spoke with several of these students and learned how they got the internships, how Google treats its interns, and whether or not a refrigerator full of ice cream interferes with the work process.

On October 18th, 2016,  the opening ceremony of the master’s programme ‘Global Business’ was held at HSE Nizhny Novgorod. Representatives from the three partner universities took part in the event.

On October 19, the rectors of 21 top Russian universities met to discuss Russia’s position in international university rankings. These 21 universities are all are members of the Global Universities Association, the main purpose of which is to create a network for and inspire collaboration among schools participating in the widely discussed Project 5-100. Slated to last eight years, this project was established under Russia’s Presidential Decree No. 599, which aims to improve the standing of Russian universities among the world’s top schools and research centres.

In 2015 Alexey Bufetov graduated from HSE Doctoral School of Mathematics, and is now working at MIT. He has talked to HSE News Site about his research and his career as a mathematician.

Maria Krivosheina, a second-year student in HSE’s Comparative Studies: Russian Literature in Cross-cultural Perspective master’s programme, placed third in Russia’s national student research paper competition in the category of Humanities and Social Sciences. Maria’s research focused on problems with how Sherlock Holmes was perceived in Russia at the beginning of the 20^th century.
