Apply for the HSE University Study Tour Experience
The International Study Tour experience is currently accepting applications for February 2021. The programme is organized by the International Admissions team with the aim of giving international students an opportunity to get a glimpse of what studying at HSE University is like. Participants attend various classes in different fields of study. Last November, the programme was held online for the first time. The February round will also be held fully online, so students from all over the world can take part. Application deadline is February 8.
During the Study Tour held in November, 2020, 75 students attended lectures offered by HSE University in Moscow. Participants chose different fields of study, ranging from business and management to finance and law. Some students shared their impressions with HSE Service:

I first heard about HSE when I wanted to organize my exchange semester in Russia. The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Cologne had a cooperation agreement with HSE, so I went to Moscow. While studying at HSE, I fell in love with Moscow. Furthermore, I enjoyed the courses I took! The subject of Social Sciences is very traditional at most universities, but at HSE I had the opportunity to choose subjects like "Nonreactive and Big Data in Social Sciences". This showed me a new dimension of research in Social Sciences. I was also impressed by the high level of faculty at HSE. It made me think of doing my Master’s at HSE.
I am aiming to study in either 'Applied Statistics with Network Analysis' or 'Politics. Economics. Philosophy' Master’s programmes next year at HSE. While planning my further education I did some research on the HSE website and found the chance to attend some classes through the 'Study Tour Experience'.
First, I sat in on “Advanced Macroeconomics” class. At the beginning, I had some problem getting into the topic because the content was based on last week’s lecture. However, after 20 minutes a new chapter was opened and it was easier for me because it was related to some contents I had in my bachelor’s degree in subjects related to economic policies.
The slides were full of content which is useful if you are learning at home for an exam. Additionally, I had the impression that the Prof. was extremely competent, because he was able to answer specific questions of some other students.
I also got to attend a Mathematics class, which turned out to be my favourite. The professor was explaining the contents extremely clearly. After this course am even more eager to attend courses in applied statistics at HSE!
The Fixed Income had some technical issues in the beginning but after the Professor solved them, there was an interesting discussion about economic bubbles, which was a new topic for me. It was interesting because the Professor showed a lot of competence in her academic subject.
To put it in a nutshell, I heard some awesome lectures. It was a bit difficult to get into the lectures in the beginning because they are always based on the contents of last week. But the whole study tour experience gives students a good chance to get in touch with the teachers. The group dynamics in the virtual class room made the impression that the Professors are more like mentors who try to improve interested students individually rather than a teacher who reads his script in front of a bored class. I would definitely recommend such an experience for everyone, who is thinking about studying at HSE!

I found out about the International Study Tour Experience when I was looking through the Master programmes at the HSE website. The application form was on the main page and I decided to apply, although I never thought I was going to be selected, I’m very grateful for the opportunity, which was so rewarding for my career.
I’m interested in two HSE’s programmes—International Business and Political Analysis and Public Policy. I’m still trying to choose the right one. I’m also waiting to save up more to pay for the programme and because I want to live the whole International experience at the university I would like to wait till we can go back to the university to study there in-person.
Professionally, I think it was very enriching for my career. I majored in International Studies last year and everything I learned during the week of Study Tour Experience only made me realize that you can never stop learning, especially when it comes to the international community. The professors are very well prepared in every lecture and they make sure the students are keeping up with the programme, which is something I really liked! All of their points of view were very perceptive and I think that’s what made it even more interesting.
